WEDDING ALERT! WHATS HOT IN AFRICA, NAIJA INCLUDED? BRIDAL TATTOOS

The latest craze in Africa, Naija included is bridal tattoos. OK let’s just say they are henna designs just like Indian bridal design.

Here are a couple of pictures culled from top makeup designer Unveil.

What do you say? Would you use get a henna tattoo for your wedding? I like the henna tattoo at least it is not permanent although I hear that owning a real tattoo parlour is big business in Naija.

I'm not that big on permanent tatoos and even if i were,I most certainly would not go to a Naija tatoo parlour to get one.Abeg, AIDS is real. In Naija, you dont have bodies that inspect these places to make sure they sterilize their equipment. I wouldn't want to put myself at any risk.

Greetings,

Just to clarify some things, henna designs used in wedding ceremonies in Africa are not new, in fact it likely dates back long before use in India.

Lets be careful not to fall into the "Africa has no history of its own" mindset even if very subtle. This is revival of tradition, rather than new trend. Its good to see that the 'City Girls' are getting back to basics with this one. I have always loved Henna designs from all over the world, its great for many different occasions!

Thanks for sharing.

Sincerely

Thank you anthroblogogist. I am Nigerian/Jamaican and a henna artist. I am doing lots of research on the African traditions of henna design. North, West and East AFrica have rich, thorough use of henna, or lali as it is called throughout WEst Africa. We gotta embrace our true selves.
