GHANA'S FILM RISING STARS WATCHOUT NOLLYWOOD.

Ghana's movie industry is set to take the African continent by storm. Recent movies made show production quality. Fewer films are made in Ghana as opposed to Nigeria's NOLLYWOOD industry; however, the plus to that is movies are carefully made and not simply rushed out in a week.

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF THE STARS IN GHANA TODAY

1. JACKIE APPIAH

Born Dec 5 1983
Married in 2005; her married name is JACKIE AYGEMANG
Says the happiest time of her life was having her son 'Damian'
Top movie lead roles: DIVINE LOVE, BEYONCE'S DAUGHTER and recently the popular movie 'MUMMY'S DAUGHTER' (I recommend every one see this one)

2. VAN VICKER

Movie lead roles: divine love, beyonce the president's daughter and mummy's daughter.
I have personally been a fan of VAN VICKER from the first time I saw him on DIVINE LOVE. However, he is given lead roles that tend to make him seem submissive.

3. NADIA BUARI

Top movie roles: Anita in mummy's daughter
she is the daughter of (President of the Musicians Union of Ghana)MUSIGA's president, Sidiku Buari one of Ghana's most successful musicians.

So what are your thoughts about Ghana's rising stars. Point to note Nollywood is involved in the production of the movies in one way or the other.

Could Ghana's movie industry take over? What would be the name? Gollywood? I want to read your comments

I haven't seen any Ghanian movie before (well @ least, not that I can recollect).
If their quality is better, then Nollywood should go take lessons from them.

Those Ghanaians always like to engage in a healthy rivalry with Nigerians... but I don't know how well they are going to do

i think nadia is the most beautiful, eloquent and the best actoress that africa has. i havent seen much of her movies but with the few i have seen of her, i couldnt have asked for a better actoress. i saw beyonce and she did excellent. of course Genny is good but so is Nadia so guys stop hatting and start appreciating. I cant wait to see both women on the screen though!

Aytime i asked of the website about Ghana Nollywood movie stars,
then there they talked mostly about Nigerian nollywood stars.
Please,Ghanians should learn to be own their own.

I really enjoyed mummy's daughter. To be honest the very first time that i saw a ghanaian movie i was really dissapointed, and started watching nigerian films, cause they were more fun, spoke english and had wonderful actors and actresses, and also had quality. But now i've seen that ghanaians have learnt their lessons and getting there, who knows we might top nigeria but we still got a long way. adjeley

Listen all you people....

Those who think all ghanaian s are adrk people, you have no idea about ghanaians. The asnates are dark, the ewes are mostly light skin. However, most ghanaians do not use bleeching creams as nigeruans so shut up u those nigerains trying to put ghanaian down.

Most pretty ghanaian ladies do not act films not as how nigerians r trying to put only d pretty ones into acting.Besides, ghanaians speak far better english than nigerians.

At least, ghana has a reason to be proud, our ladies are not prostitutes in europe whiles the men are into drugs....

Keep it up ghanaians.

Go GHANIANS BRAP BRAP!!!!

Nigerian movies do not stand a chance compare to ghanian movies. As far as sound quality , picture quality, creativity and so on. Nigeria movie seem dominating because it has been in the industry for quite some time and they need to do better to realy seal their position as number one. Congratulation Ghanians. Jacky Appiah is kicking ass and Van vicker , excuse me, he is simply hot and talented. peace

In my opinion Ghana's movies are 150 percent better than those of Nigeria's.I currentlu reside in the USA, but when I lived in GUYANA I hated to look at Africian movies, that is of course until I saw the movie Beyonce. It was brilliantly made although Darkness of Sorrow and Mummy's Daughter had a few glitches that can be detected while watching the movies.Van Vicker seems to be the same person in Each of his roles. They really need to put him a movie where is is not constantly crying. He struggles a lot there. The only problem I find with Van and Nadia is that it took a lot for tears to come by them.I think It comes more naturally to Jackie and it is more convincing. However they are all good actors. The movie industry in Nigeria needs to step up a notch and take pride in quality and not quantity.

i think that these ghanians are realli good at theses movie. i watched um mummys daughter it was so nice and heartbreakin. theses ghanians are realllllllllllllli good. i think nadia should act alot more movies with her beauty my god she would turn around african life. and van vicker more for him too he should act alot more so to moreee mmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooovvvvvvvvvviiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeessssss

more movie these ghanians are good.nadia is good everyones good more movies for them. van more movie

umm excuse me,i have something to say about dis argument, and yes im a ghanaian, why dun grill up the beef b/n nigerians and ghanians and eat it all together, das it matter who bleaches and who dasn't?
ghanaians are known to be beautiful wid all the natural features, being it "GOOD HAIR", big bootys, nice complexion(dark) ofcourse, and beautiful...
i mean its not even worth arguing about dis whole issue..
my nigerians, y'all also known to be nice, well some are known to be nice, especiall the men, i know dis coz i have nigerian friends, and yes nigerian men are sexy, i dunno about the females though, LoL!!!
well my whole point is, we should all be proud of who and what we are, whether dark or white, bleaching the skin or no bleaching, doesn't really matter, as long as we feel good under our skin...
Anonymous said…
The problem is that nigerian actors......well people in general are not too easy on the eyes! Damn Ghana you beat them out in looks and talent. I am also noticing that the scenery in the ghanian films are less odious, more plush, and the people tend to be less barberic. While watching their films all I keep thinking is....."Ghana must me such a beautiful place". While watching Nigerian films all I keep thinking is " I will never go to Nigeria, be wary of Nigerian people, and whats up with the hairdos"? I can definitely see the Ghanain movie industry taking over. However, they really need to improve the endings to their movies and expand their choice of actors and actresses.

well, i'm not from Ghana or Africa, but i must say that these new upcoming stars are doin a wonderful job. i believe that in time they will soon accomplish their goal to make it big time.. i wish all of them luck, jackie, van and nadia. luv u all..

van vicker, u so hot and sexy. i love u and u had a beautiful daugher too. keep going.
but i think there is no need to be competing with nigeria becos they are already on top and more over we are all west Africans. keep it going almost on top.

i love Nadia see she is a cute girl and has dimples that kill other then i am not going to lie but the first time i seen beyonce i hated nadia only because of the charayer she iven to play. other then that they shouldn't give soooooo much love parts like finding her love or sacrafising her love for sumones happiness.Ex. sorrow of darkness,Mummys daughter or even royal battle the director or producer of theses movies should watch american movies and get some ideas and if you are try harder because the romeo juliet themes are to OLD

I have read through all these comment and i really respect peoples opinion and ideas. But i will suggest that jackie, nadia and van should be apart from each other a little bit. I love all of them but I really hate to see them together in any recent or upcoming movies again. They are always together and is really making their movie boring and irritating to me. and i dont know why people are so crazy about ligtskinned people. of cost they are cute but i have come across cute darkskinned brothers too. we have respect both the light and dark skinned actors and actresses and give them the same credit and equal attention. These actors came out of nowhere and er body is all over them given them titles and credits i believed they dont deserve. what about all those actors and actresses who have been in the industry for so long doing a tremendous job. they deserved the credit too. I think nadia and van is twistin peoples mind. They are not yet great actors. People given them credit b/c of their looks. a great actor should be judge by his or her work and determination but not by his or her looks. people should put that in mind and looked deep inside these actors and bring out greatnest and facts, not opinions. they are good but not great. and is not time yet for them to be. but until then we have recognized the real stars. i'm a ghanian and i have watched both ghanian and nigerian movies. if i'm forced to judge the two i will say ghanians do not stand any chance in becoming the top when it comes to movies. music yeah but not movies. nigerians tops as and we have to be ghanians be strong and accept the fact that we dont beat them now, but we can get close to them and be great too but defininatly, not now. and the ligt and dark issue, i also will like to say that emeka ike is dark skinned but he has been kwon as TDH(TALL, DARK AND HUNDSOME)and great actor all together. I mean he is the package and needs to recognized. and genevieve too.

why do nigerians always go like ghanaians are very dark people?...where did u guyx get dat from?...ooh is it because about 70 percent of nigeria's population have bleached?...well get dis straight guyx...da few people who happens to have bleached in ghana are mostly illetrates.Da last people ghanaians wld want to be like are nigerians plus why wld u guyx always try to compare the two countries? Da best country nigeria should compete with is USA cos they have about the same population. Ghana has achieved more than enough....go guyx cos u r good actors and actresses.

i am a trinidadian and today my friend introduced me to 'mummy's daughter' which was fabulously funny with real soap opera drama (doh at times frustrating in the many circles the story seemed to be going in)but these movies have a lot of potential and should not be underestimated! van vicker alone could take over!
Anonymous said…
wow i`ve read through all your comments and i respect each and everyones` opinion on this matter.Thouhg not a ghanian, i`ve watched numerous ghanian films and i`ve got to give them their props, the actors give it their all when they perform. Also i`ve watched several nigerian movies and though the nigerians have have great story lines and wonderful actors, their movies, more often than not tend to be babaric and actors try so hard to be Americans wannabe wich truthfully turns me off. All the ghanaian movie industry needs is great storylines and a large scope of actors and eventually, they will be takeing over nollywood by storm.

according to my understanding of this issue, Nigeria is involved one way or another in Ghana movies and i'm sure they (ghana) spent a great deal of time watching movies produced by Nigeria and came up with ideas and ways to make theirs different in a better way. so, what's the big deal if ghana movies become most watched than that of nigeria? after all, nigeria is like the master, father, and mentor of ghana (movie wise) and i think it is the dream and even prayer of every good father, teacher as well as mentor to teach or raise a better student or even a better child than him/herself. so, lets see ghana movies as those of the (redifined after research and learning frm the father's mistakes and made several corrections)better child is learned & maybe is still learning from the father (nigeria)so as to come out excellent.

TRUST ME U WUD WANT 2 READ THIS IF I WAS U....the names chichi

ok i've read all and i mean ALL the comments and all i can say is im 100% nigerian....and i watch both ghanian and nigerian movies. and i am truly sick of the competion. BUT if u wanna get technical then fine. nollywood i believe is better! so what! 1.if nigerians movies come out every week..afterall u all go out to get all the weekly new releases,2. to the idiot that said: vanillie:"Listen all you people....
At least, ghana has a reason to be proud, our ladies are not prostitutes in europe whiles the men are into drugs....Keep it up ghanaians"...SHUTUP! are u kidding me does that make u a better ghanaian, if ur that steroetypical and idiotic, then since ur representing all ghanaians, i must say ghanaians suck!, no matter wat country u come from there are beauty products and maybe the ppl u kno dont use beauty products but im sure there are hideous ghanaians out there who are far uglier than most ghanaians who use beauty products. PLUS...all actors rangimg from ur jackie to out ramsey use beauty products or makeup..u kno why? cuz they are actors, actors coverup when acting, do u really think their skin is flawless with no history of pimple or any wrinkles! please! now for the person who stated: "Nigerian movies do not stand a chance compare to ghanian movies. As far as sound quality , picture quality, creativity and so on. Nigeria movie seem dominating because it has been in the industry for quite some time and they need to do better to realy seal their position as number one. Congratulation Ghanians. Jacky Appiah is kicking ass and Van vicker , excuse me, he is simply hot and talented. peace" i have news for u...nigerian movies have been here for a long time..if anything ghanaians have jus risen to our standards if not lower thanks to van and jackie and nadia. Sound quality and all that mumbo jumbo..are u kidding me, according to this article on wikipedia and du to common sense which im sure is not common among many "Nigeria has a multi-billion dollar movie industry, churning out some 200 "home videos" every month to become the third largest in the world after the United States and India (visit cnn.com/transcripts and www.isop.ucla.edu). Many foreign and local critics have criticized Nollywood for its trite plots, poor dialogue, terrible sound, and poor production values. Some worry that the prevalence of witchcraft and violence in the movies may encourage negative stereotypes about Africans. Yet in just 13 years, Nollywood has grown from nothing into an industry that employs thousands of people." so maybe there are some minor adjustments needed for trust me its far better than the history of ghanaian movies in general..if u even can sum up wat u hav as history. and i hate to drop this rather sorrow filled bomb on you ghanaians but um...ur actors arent even full bred ghanaians..Van Vicker is everything but ghanian..his mother is canadian and liberian and his father is dutch! DUTCH guys not ghanian....he is no where near ghana...Nadia is part nigerian (yea jus had to say that) and the other half ghanaian, yvonne okoro is full nigerian...its only ur jackie who as far as i kno is complete ghanaian. Most of ur new actors are mixed so ghanaian my foot! represent my ass! and another thing. if u noticed the nigerian film industry has more than 4 ppl that appear in movies....this is wat i call variety. All those who have commented have only seen beyonce, return of beyonce, mummy's daughter, divine, darkness of sorrow, american boy and slave to lust (slave to lust has nigerian actors in it anyway so im not gonna front) and u think wow ghana is really rising...but with nigeria tell me, name more than 5 nigerian actors. i bet u can! why? cuz its not always the same new faces there is a variety and for the idiot who said "The problem is that nigerian actors......well people in general are not too easy on the eyes! Damn Ghana you beat them out in looks and talent." once again shutup! please ur only making these comments because u see nadia and jackie and van...have u noticed u cant rely on 3 ppl to carry a nation's movie industry...we have rita dominic, stephanie okereke, ini edo, ramsey noah, omotola ekinede, dakore engubuson, genevieve nnaji, RMD, muna obiekwe, ogr okoye, pat attah, jim ikye, monalisa chindu (must i go on...) if u look at them i believe in my opinion are pretty people...and correct me if i am wrong but have i not jus named more than 5 to u? its ok dont feel stupid now...wait until i finish...and i wud jus like to say to noma who said: "according to my understanding of this issue, Nigeria is involved one way or another in Ghana movies and i'm sure they (ghana) spent a great deal of time watching movies produced by Nigeria and came up with ideas and ways to make theirs different in a better way. so, what's the big deal if ghana movies become most watched than that of nigeria? after all, nigeria is like the master, father, and mentor of ghana (movie wise) and i think it is the dream and even prayer of every good father, teacher as well as mentor to teach or raise a better student or even a better child than him/herself. so, lets see ghana movies as those of the (redifined after research and learning frm the father's mistakes and made several corrections)better child is learned & maybe is still learning from the father (nigeria)so as to come out excellent." i jus want to say thank u!!!!!! thank u so much!!!!! all u idiots (and i put the emphasis greatly on those who feel they must boast and in while doing so start talking of things they do not kno *cough* bleach cream *cough*) if u actually pay attention to these credits on ur ghanaian movies...trust me there are traces of grand ole nigeria in them.... and to this one particular ghanaian who i feel is the only one to be admired at the moment, who said: "I have read through all these comment and i really respect peoples opinion and ideas. But i will suggest that jackie, nadia and van should be apart from each other a little bit. I love all of them but I really hate to see them together in any recent or upcoming movies again. Done get me wrong i have watched ghanian movies but the only ones that shud be boasted bout are these recent ones but thats it...nigeria has made a name for themselves so really if anyone is hating is ignorant malicious ppl who obviously have too much pride and ego to realize that country pride shud not only be based on ur love for the conuntry but at least get ur info stragit in fact if i was u i'd research and really give a good detailed incite onto wat u kno and wat u've heard...*cough* bleach cream *cough*...thanks and if u wanna kno bout me princessnini3838@hotmail.com....maybe u can learn from me...iight peace!

damn chichi or wht evea u called , participate and stop hatin when nigeria was on top we ghanaians embrassed it we didnt hate, and if its our turn now we ll damn well embrasse it too and kick nigeria out , ur mother ownin a shop dont make u intelligent.make u look stupid instead, interlligent is from the brain and not the store full of pirate Ghanaian movies. anyways im 12 yrs old. by the way its hardly to see light skin in naija , unless u want to see ramsey lol, anyways peace out
Okkkkkay.
I have never seen a Nigeran movie, and 'Beyonce' is the first Ghanian movie I've seen. I loved the movie, it was really interresting, but most of the actors didn't act well, except for Beyonce and her 2 friends, and Van Vicker's mom (sorry dont know their names). Ummm the songs sucked...Honestly.
Not a lot of girls in the movie are PRETTY as some of you said, they're okk. I'm just telling my opinion, your problem if it offends you. But you're all stupid for fightin, makin a competition, I mean, Ghana & Nigeran are both African !! Why are you fightin?? It's so stupid, gosh its just movies. And stop talkin about the bleaching thingy! And yeahh as the other girl who commented said does it really matter if they bleach?? It's their choice. I really dont get this. I dont know if Nigeran movies are better than Ghanaians movies or if Ghanaians movies are better than Nigeran, but honestly I dont give a fuck. I'm just talking based to what I saw, Beyone was so interesting. The songs sucked, the actors sucked, and shit but who cares it was amazing. Stop being so pathetic people. I aint Nigeran, I aint Ghanain. I'm mixed (half black, half white) so aint against anybody, all right?

VAN VICKER IS SOOOOOOO HOT AND SEXXY AND CUTEEE !!!!!!

Thats all i had to say... omg beyonce is such a bitchhhhh in the movie lol. I wanna see more movies like this, and I will go and check out on the Nigerans movies too. PEACE OUT PEOPLE !

P.s - i think jalousy is just the problem here...

NOLLYWOOD WATCH OUT? I DON'T THINK SO.

When I watch African movies, it's always Naija movies. I 1st watched a Ghanaian movie some years ago. I was so disappointed that I never watched them again. But about two years ago, I watched a movie with Van Vicker and that Appiah girl where she played a girl named Kate. It was subtitled "the best Ghanaian movie ever". After i watched it, it was better than other Ghana movies but kinda mediocre when compared to your average Nigerian movie. Since, I've maintained not watching Ghanian movies. But recently, I watched some with that Buari girla and Appiah and Vicker and they were actually good. It could actually stand a chance against Naija movies, except they don't know how to end a good story well, a flaw many Nigerian movies have. These "Good" Ghanaian movies seem too similar to Najia movies tho. And all the Ghanaian movies I've seen have these three main Actor/actresses. It's always that mixed boy and girl and the other brown one. As if they're Ghana's trophies of beauty. Right now, I only know three Ghanaian actors, and i just learned 2 of their names from reading other's posts.

van vicker is cute but yes he can go to acting classes and become a better actor. They also need expand the actors because its tiring when you see the same people over and over again. I am not African but I enjoy the movies. Instead of the hate and competition between the two countries just be proud that other people are open minded enough to watch the movies.

another thing they really need to obtain better stylists and hairdressers in all the movies.

why r we fighting, wat's the use, no matter wat we say wat is going to happen will happen. naija and ghana r neighbors we r friends. i think that they should team up to make both productions BETTER. besides wat is all this braging about, naija's have come a long way n we have made it, still doing more n rising, but the ghanian's just started and they're braging this n that, this n that. people keep saying that ghanaian movies r better than naija's but they just started, we have been around for a long time n ghana's act this same kind of movies we act, like beyonce, we've acted it before a long time ago, (ramey as raj, maureen silver as ciara n sandra achmus as beyonce) so ofcourse people r going to be tied. by the way i'm from naija.but my mom was raised in ghana so i fill like part ghana, it's like my second country.

I am ghanian but i love nigerian movies y do we say dat we are better dan dem wen we are not, if u had to calculate de pretty girls in nigeria and in ghana overall nigeria would still win, because dey hav sum peepz acting dont aint dat pretty dont mean dat deyre ugly maybe deyre just not selecting right or putting on de right makeup all de nigerians i've seen are prettier dan de ghanians, ghanians bleach more dan nigeria nearly all ghanian women datz dark have thought bout bleaching, not saying deres nothing wrong wit been dark, becuz we did gd in de world cup last year dont mean we wont get beat diz time as nigerians hav got a better powerful team now, we do copy a lot of things from nigeria so lets not be rude. About the corruptness Ghana is smaller dan nigeria so that is expected, Nigeria is also richer dan us in natural resources, they have less diseases and their economy is better nd even getting better by the minute where us ghanians our money is bad, ghana people are clever so are nigerians as they have high achievements judging bout better english is wrong cuz how do u know if deyre english is worse or better judge ur english first although i got to say we ghanians have more accent. About nigerian people goign to europe nd been prostitutes dats totally untrue just cuz dey embrace other culture maybe even too much , datz a beautiful thing and it isnt only nigerians do dat so dont judge, dey are probably one of the most popular african countries if not the most pepular african country do dont diss dem just cooperate, be truthful bout situations, if nigerians are wrong in some ways be truthful but if deyre not dont lie

Gollywood there is no need to be competitive with Nollywood. The only thing that matters is for the both countries to work together as one and make it big in Africa, so other Africa countries can follow to those steps in success. The actors and actresses are all talented and good looking. Van Vicker to Ramsey Nouah, Jackie to Genevivie, and Nadia to Omotola. I wish you all the best and keep doing what you are doing because you guys are role models for children growing up in Africa that wants to make it big in showbiz. Even children here in North America (Canada).

whatevr, look how much money nollywood make, it will always be the most popular and nigerians produce all the films, its just cheaper to make them in ghana! look on wikepedia all those saying ghana will take over, in a 100 years maybe. both countries work well together and any african actor who wants to be actually make money know nigeria is where its at.
ghana i think is just tired of being in nigerias shadow, they are nice people so give them a chance but nigerians are not barbaric and there are nice ones there, thats why everyone is chasing our men, from white, black and asian.

First of all, this is ridiculous okay. I want to know how can only Asantes are the dark ones and Ewes are light skin. My mom is lightskinned and she is asante (Ashanti) that does not mean at all that dark skin people aren't cute or not half as pretty as light skin people it doesn't make sense that you have to put people down like that because they aren't a certain type of color. Mixed, African-american, or Ghanaian it doesn't matter. Period, all tribes have dark skinned and light skinned people. No one is different or uglier because of the color of there skin. That is how it goes.
Anonymous said…
First of all, I saw all the comments, and was quite offended. What makes you think that all Ghanaians are dark. Also why do you think that asnates are dark and ewes are light. My mom is light skinned and she is from the asanate tribe. All the years of her life she has never ever bleached her skin. Her parents are lightskinned and they are from the Ashanti tribe, I would know they are my Grandparents. And why is there a war going on between Ghanaians and Nigerians. Haven't you seen "A Woman's Honor". It is a Nigerian movie with Van Vicker and Nadia Buari starring in it. Going back to the skin thing I think that is rude for people to go and say that a certain tribe is all dark and another is all light-skinned. I am darkskinned and I have not problems with it. And many dark-skinned people have a natural beauty that other don't. So don't hate, because every one is beautiful in there own way, period.

ps. Nadia is Ghanaian and Lebanese.

I came across this site for the first time and I must say as a Jamaican (a proud woman of African descend) I am ashamed of some of the comments I have read. As a people we have a long way to go. I believe if we try to find love within ourselves we will then be able to love our people as a whole and get beyond all the divisiveness. The attack on Africa as a whole is real and the enemy could careless if we are Nigerians, Ghanians, Jamaican or whatever.
Anonymous said…
wow I cam across this site by accident and I can't believe the nonsence that you guys are arguing over....from wich country has the better movies to which skin tone is more beautiful....are you people for real?? the white man came into our land and poisend our minds with their images of white being beautiful and black beaing ugly and centries later we still hold onto that nonsense.
For all of you who do not know beauty is not determined by skin color.

my mother is lightskined and she is beautiful my father on the other hand is dark skin and he is very handsome. me and my siblings are different shades of brown and we are all very beautiful. so who cares about who bleaches and who doesn't. and who cares about who has the best movies and who don't...we should be celebrating the fact that Africa is finally getting recognition from the western world for our accomplishments and that our movies have made across the continent and into the homes of people who are not African.

Why do we need to embarrass ourslves and fight over something that is not worth fighting over. I am a proud Ghanian and a proud African and I think that both Ghanian and Nigerian movies are entertaining and I think what we need to do is come together as a people and be proud of what our nation(Africa) is doing rather than fight over foolishness

well all i have to say is ghana is sure going to take over. even though ghana do not have a large variety of
actors and movies. when one ghana movie come out it is much better
than that of nigeria. in ghana movies
the actors speakrbetter english, i am talking with english with brittish accent, better sound and soundtrack, better quality and the acting is much better.when ghanain movie comes out it talk about more and it watch by many many other people from other countries. in the
nigerian movies the actors are not well educated they speak broken english and they are barbaric. if i had to choose ghana movies. ghana is sure going to take over in few years. gollywood that sounds great. remember ghana is the gateway to africa. ghana is the america of africa. the land of freedom and democracy.

all yall that is hating on ghana movies and nigerian movies should shut up. I am from ghana and i will say nnigerian movies are really good they are doing well, so is ghana movies. i think both industry should work hand in hand just like in the music industry., when u have ghanian artist and nigerian artist working together. ex 2face and vip. Ghana and nigeria are the face of west africa, no the whole africa, whetheer in soccer, movies or music.both countries are similar in culture and they both have good relationship.Because at the end when a person from different continent watch these they do not call them nigerian or ghanain they refered to them as African movies. it wood be good if any movie made in Africa should be called nollywood.

Hi All

I'm not from Ghana nor Nigeria, in fact I'm from across the Atlantic a country called Guyana. All of you should be proud whether Nigerian or Ghanian, because your films are the greatest rave right now in my country. Shown weekly on special nights on atleast 3 television stations, not to mention countless sales of DVDs. I'm of African descent and these movies have done much to enlighten people to the culture, to some extent of Africa. Before we were only privy to western movies, so both countries deserve their props,African films are now the biggest thing in Guyana and the Caribbean, maybe a few of the actors can do well to tour these places further highlighting their work.
Look forward to many more movies, out of Africa.

I have seen quite a few Nigerian movies and have watched also the recent offerings from Ghana including the Beyonce series and Mommy's Daughter etc. What I have observed is that Nigerian movies have continuously improved over a long time and if the Ghanaian movies are any better it is as an extension of developments made in the Nigerian industry. It is not really fair to criticize the shoulders upon which you stand. Also I am sure that the actors in the Ghanaian movies wouldn't engage in these silly arguments because they are fully aware of the role the Nigerian industry has played in their own success. Also Nigerian movie makers are obviously not viewing Ghana as competition otherwise why would they involve themselves in Ghanaian films. Have a look at the credits of Mommy's Daughter for example and you'll see it is just as Nigerian as it is Ghanaian and one of the better films to come out of West Africa BECAUSE OF the collaboration between the two countries. Hopefully we'll see more of this and soon it will be "watch out Hollywood, 'Africawood' is on the rise!"
Peace.

People should stop chatting about who is putting better looking actors/actresses in their movies. That is what movies are all about. Everybody does it. When I visited America from UK where I live and saw people of all shapes and sizes and degrees of ugliness. Not everyone there looks like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Surprise Surprise!

for all u people that keep sayin that ghana just started movies. u guys do not know shit about when we started we were the african countries to start producing movies. when u look back we have movies that dated way back in the 60s.but we step back a little and started producing movies in our language, because people were enjoying bob santo so much. when he died thats when ghana movies went down but guess what we are back and definetely we are going to reclaim our positions. the movies made in 1980s are still better than those made by nigerians today. if u don't believe me just out diabollo, sarah, naomi, my sweetie, who killed nancy. so all u nigerians need to shut up. of course nigeria is more popular than ghana because of their criminal activities and their oils. ghana has also found oil and whoever said nigerian have beeter life than ghanains if that ws true tou would not have that singer sing about the suffering in nigeria. in ghana we are doing great things, we are name the peaceful country in africa. we have a lot of nigeria artist producing their music in ghana.ghana do is doing it in everything music, dancing, moovies, education and peace. so all u nigerians that is hating on ghana need to shut up. as the movies u guys are on top now because you guys have more populations so u have more actors and producers but we surely are goin to take ova. p.s i will watch the new ghanain mvies over nigerian any day. because we have quality, better english and we are less babaric.

I do not have anything against Ghanaians and I'm happy that they are starting out in the movie world. I did see "Beyonce" and "The Return of Beyonce" and loaned it to my African American friend who liked it too but I can't compare just one movie to so many wonderful Nigerian movies whether done in English or Yoruba. Yeah, Van Vick is okay looking just becaus he is mixed and so is Nadia but the dialgoue in the movie was a little weak. People are not looking past the way they look. Actors are not always great in all movies but they have moments when they do shine. There are a lot of extra ordinary looking actors in Nigerian movies who also back that up with good acting. Nadia could but Van, he needs to take more lessons ... "good looks" don't translate to good acting. I know a couple of Nigerian actors who are like him too but all in all, like someone said, three people cannot carry a whole movie industry and they all do not have to be good looking people; just good actors. Try watching the movie "Games That Women Play" - a cast of beautiful actors and good acting. How 'bout "Civil War" or "The In-Law" which are comedies. I believe that Ghana movie is up and coming and will be given a chance but at the moment, there is not competition

hey y'all i am a ghanaian and a proud one if i may add.but what's up with the movie beyonce huh..........the one who wrote this movie sucks.....it is just another remake of the nigarian movie VICTIM OF LOVE starred;RAMSEY NOAUH.It was the same dialogue and they are there talking about ghanaian movies reaching the top how can you reach the top by plagarising. And also the movie MUMMY'S DAUGHTER whoever that wrote this movie plagarised an INDIAN MOVIE that i personally watched three years ago, they copied exactly every single scene from the movie. The only movie i will say they did not copy is PRINCESS TYRA and it rockkkkkkkkkkkkkkk than any of the plagarised movies they are making now.One more thing they should note is that they should stop doing the same senerios in every movie they make boy love girl parents disapprove blah....blah...blah.....blah.If they want real stories they should contact me on my web.

Nah mate...Im Nigerian and I dont think Ghanaians stand a chance to make it as big as Nollywood (the Nigerian film Industry)sorry!..Nigeria has worked hard to be at the position it is...Its not one or two good movies that you guys are talking bout from ghana...theyve maade millions. Also Ghanaianns are not natural actor...this will sound like discrimination but its true..Ghanaians are not born actors otherwise they would have made it big long time ago...Its the same with Nigerians trying to do music its like nooo...But ghanaian music is the booommm and thats you lots fields of talent...Dancing , music, Instruments lool..anything like that Ghanaians you do this ting...but sorry the films..you have to leave it for us because gave us that talent same way he gave you guys your own...Bye
Anonymous said…
People, people, people what's with this hatred and malice? "Nigerian's are better than Ghanaians...no Ghanaians are better than Nigerians" does it really matter?
Why compete based on movies when there are much more important subjects that require debating? Whether or not Nigerian movies are better than Ghanaian movies is irrelevant- all that's important is that there are movies in both countries that are being made to be enjoyed. This argument will go nowhere if people don't stop hyping and let the sleeping dog lie. Leave this subject alone and get on with life for goodness sake!

p.s. Van Vicker is a quarter ghanaian and the rest is South African, Liberian and Dutch- i think. My cousin met him and she told me

Van Vicker and Nadia Buari are talented. No doubt about that. Bringing in their skin complexion ... i think; is a no go area. Why? Because one has to talk about their talents and leave that (skin complexion) alone. They happen to be light skinned. Good for them. Jackie Agyemang happens to be dark skinned. Good for her. She is talented as well. Nollywood should start paying attention to Nadia and Van because they are good. (Good to a "T"). Diction wise, knowing their characters well, studying their crafts, paying attention to details, inflection, grammar!!! and a host of other details to do with acting, character portrayal and the rest. Jackie too gets credit as well. Nollywood actors shouldn't get overblown but should learn a thing or two from the above - named individuals, especially, Van and Nadia. Also chemistry does matter between love interests in movies. Nollywood take note. "Beyonce" is one typical example. All in all i root for Van Vicker and Nadia Buari. Should they happen to act alongside Genevieve and Ramsey then it would be cool! Stephanie Okereke acted alongside Genevieve in Critiical Decision and it was da bomb! Liked it. My personal opinion. Thnx.

why is it ghana and nigeria are only the people aguing allways we have to coprate in what ever we do as we are doing befor we dont have to aguie about something which is not inportant even the acters and actresses dont no all about wat u poeple are saying .we are like a family wat is ghana and wat is nigeria are we not all black people?tell me is nigeria americans or is ghana british we are all blacks .what i hate in all this comments i read is the nigerian who talk about ghana and use idiots on is speech the way he speaks showa that he dont have respect for his country nigeria but i want him to no that we have a very respect for our mother ghana
,if nigeria is on top so what.
who came to us and say , i have seen that ghanians are very good i accting so why not to start acting together is it not nigerians, and i want u to know that ghanians are not learning from nigerians we have our own way of acting wat i was suprise is that some are saying that deyonce is a nigerian film before ghana , okey we understand and why did nigerians accting with guns and evry thing the americans use in their films or is nigerians now americans ,why shoul, dint they continue with their voodoo films they started with its a shame.when u people hear that ghana have new actors u poeple try to take them from us why when they refuse u started saying they are not even ghanians ok we know that ,but is all the nigerian actora nigerians ? is ramsy not from one of the arab countries?when they were suspended from acting with jenevive is it not the same ghana they came looking for help?u poeple should stop saying what u dont know pls.

all that nigerians know is that they have money that ghana dont have yes we dont have money but we have god as our saviour .is it not iol that u are proud with ? dont worry very soon ghana too will be blessed with the iol that god have already giving her and even without oil we are doing good and now with iol we are going to flyyyyyyyy.
even the nigerians are saying that if that ghana have half of their welf ghana should have become african heaven , and now with iol in ghana that dream will surely come true ,god bless us all

i do not think it is the actors who have the problem of over acting and interacting in all the movies.neither is it the fans problem.the only person i have a problem with is the crew members.i blame them for neglecting the potentials of other guys who can blow our minds in the movie world and sticking only on some particular pretty faces.venus films take note.that is not fair.these guys do not have it all though they are doing a nice job.others can do better even without so much beauty which is not so easy to come by thogh.movie making is not all about pretty faces and good language.i am cameroonian and though we are not really into movie making,i think i got an idea of who takes what responsibility.do you expect van, nadia or kate to say no to business when producers and directors come knocking and they are available.this is a world of business and no one will say no to money, not even the famous.i only mine the fact that they are too cold, lacking the kind of fire we desire but some of the ghanian movies have a sense of class than our naija guys.naija guys really rush things and end up with some errors that could be avoided.tchidi chikere take note

to chichi or chiwuawua or whatever, i really like how you think you're a know-it-all with your long-ass boring speech. It's rather quite amusing.. let me laugh AHAHAh , idiot.
Now in everything you said nothing made sense , i mean i didn't have to read the whole thing because unlike you i have a life therefore can't spend all day argumentative about something that is to no benefit to me.
Intriguing is how you want to bring out the nationality issue.Say what makes anyone where he's from? Where the parents where born, grew up or where the kids were born , grew up or they just take whatever nationality one or both of the parents have?
I know for a fact you're just a kid from how you convey your ideas:Van Vicker parents are Liberian and Dutch and so and so, Do you know where he was born? grew up? went to school? familiar with?
Nadia is half Nigerian; so? she isn't ghanian either?what does she sound like? Do you know what's on her passport?Where she was born? grew up?
All those actors whom nationality you tried to make usurpated are ghanians regardless of whatever ancestry you come up with. We all have backgrounds , all of us remember that.

Look all you guys are always repeating the same names and films, Vickers, Appiah and Buari!
Where all the others in Ghana?
Just leave the film industry to Nigeria!
You’d realise that you can name PLENTY of Nigerian actors and actresses.
Ghanaians get most of their story lines and ideas from Nigeria anyway, only that they do it so badly!
What’s with Beyonce? They have 6 PARTS to it, enough to make you fall asleep!
If you guys really looked at the credits, you would know that there some Nigerian actors in all Ghana’s “good films”
Look, just leave the industry to Nigeria, no offence Ghanaians, I have nothing against you, but you have to just accept Nollywood is number !
Even a couple of my Ghanaians friends say so!

(And thank you, Chidi and Chxta, you're so right!)

Hi everybody, I dont think its time to compare between Naija and Ghanian movie..not just movie but every other sector... these are two distinct country with different culture and values. We are not developed countries and we still have the stigma of poverty and underdevelopment attached to the african identity. I am a young nigerian who believe in collaborative efforts among youths. The ghanian movie is coming up..daz good but i will advise against monopolizing artist, you gat to give other talent a try. Also beauty can be a crucial factor in entxment but talet shouldn't be ignored, I admit i admire the beauty ofia and van and the role they play..in their sense oaz the ideal perf humor..dson I want to be and that is what enterxment shud be. in Nollywood I also admire Dakore, omotola, pat attah, sam dede.. their role show my ideal trait. keep it up everybody in anything you do

This is a response to, "Majid Michael" question,

does anybody know about this guy called Majid Michael dat acted in Divine love? he is sooooo cute!!

Majid is a not so "new" actor with great potential. He is the next mega-star of Ghana. Personally, he is a much better actor than Van Vicker, bear in mind that this is just my opinion. Majid has starred in several movies, my estimate would be about 15-20 films. It could be more. He may be coming to the US, Florida, by the end of the year or early next year. He appears to be a very nice guy with an easygoing personality.

i give credit to nadia buari not for her complexion but she is a natural beauty, light or if she was dark. the way she carries herself in her movie steals my heart. the way she speaks reminds me of myself and my friends. i just love her. she looks like many jamaican girls i know.
she is my girl crush right now. *teehee*

i am jamaican girl and honestly you africans really need to stop fighting about ghana or nigeria. you all should enjoy the fact that other nations are paying attention to african movies. these movies are showing a part of africa i have never seen. the beautiful houses, nice cars, hot hairstyles, hot clothes, i swear its just like jamaica to me. i love it.

yes everyone should have pride in their region but guys please embrace ALL of africa, please.

Americans embrace america. we Jamaicans embrace jamaica. we don't say oh bob marley was from this section or bennie man that section. we love all. if we don't how can we expect to be taking seriously?

as far as the movies go. i have watched a few nigerian movies but honestly the actors/actresses are a little above my age group. thats why i prefer the van vickers and nadias etc.....

bless up and love to you all my ancestoral people

To whoever said Jamaican's embrace Jamaica, Americans embrace America so Africans should embrace Africa. M8 Jamiaca is a COUNTRY africa is a CONTINENT. In every continent der r regional competitions. Ur argument is not comparative!!

ANYWAYZ,

This was ment 2 b about TALENT not skin colour! KMT! N just because d ARTICLE u ppl r pretending to answer 2 talks about Vicker, Buari and Appiah, I will talk about dem.

Jackie is the most talented, the other 2 r ok. Princess Tyra was live. The film industry, Nollywood, Bollywood, Hollywood n d rest ALL PLAGARISE, don't b putting dat just on Ghanaians! KMT! Vicker is forever playing d same person, he plays him well but PLEASE some variety!! The scriptwriters in Ghana and Nigeria have many sins to answer for which we can't blame the actors for.

But seriously Ghana have improved because we have separated our English and Home language films instead of mixing which is a good thing. They r NOT the only actors actresses. Nana Ama McBrown, Nana Hayford and MANY OTHERS having been repping in Twi n Fante for years. DO SOME RESEARCH!!!!!!!! Back in the days Bob Santo and now Agya Ko

N oh yeah, Nollywood do have sum over used actors/actresses too. Y all d hate on here. Ghana is improving and it will encourage Nigeria to also improve and we the VIEWERS all benefit. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the African movies, be it Nigerian or Ghanaian. The African (Nollywood and Ghollywood) movie industries should be very proud of themselves. Great job.

As for the variation of people complexion, Ghana or Nigeria, what does it matter? Let's look at the talents. Jackie and Nadia are beautiful sisters and wonderful actresses.

I am a Jamaican and to tell you the truth I get tired of all this color comparisons. Most Jamaicans (African descendants) comes in all shades of black and it is beautiful. Some of us are mixed, I think it is called halfco's in Ghana. Let me apologize here if I am politically incorrect. Being bi-racial or tri-racial or extremely multi-racial does not make one better or more beautiful than someone who is uni-racial. What the heck, we are all mixed at some level. It is so annoying when we can only see beauty on the surface. Let's find beauty in the depth of our beings and GDI just CELEBRATE don't hate.

Peace and blessings. Above all ONE LOVE!!! Irie.

I am currently residing in the USA and I have watched a lot of films from both Nigeria and Ghana. I think a persons own prefrence plays a major role in ones liking. I am an American so I am not taking no ones side here. I like films from both sides but I enjoy the films from Ghana a little more. It doesn't matter how cute, ugly, light or dark the actors/actresses are. Picking out those qualities are comments from IGNORANT people. We have films in the USA that have the same assortment of people. The talent and the drive behind it is all that matters. I say to everyone that is involved with the movie scene keep up the good work. The opinion of others never really matters because for every 1 individual that dislikes your films, there are 10 others like me that still loves them. KICK ROCKS HATERS..DON'T NOTHING HATE BUT A HATER!

i am an american, and the first time , i watched a ghanaian movie,i was very impressed.they speak very good english.i don't hate nigerian movies but,i find it very difficult to understand some of their english. being, dark skinned or light skinned is not important.that has got nothing to do with how good an actor is.

Its nice that everyone is so into this topic but I really think both Ghana and Nigeria should be working together to make good quality movies. Who cares about light skinned or dark skinned its the quality of the movie that counts. Ghana's movie industry has been around almost long as the Nigeria's, they were probably conceived at the same time. The Nigerian movies just became more popular as they were producing more movies than Ghana. Also the very first movie i watched was a classic movie, i think i was in middle shcool when when i saw it, its called "Matters of the Heart" ( a ghanian movie)and I'm now 26. We need to work together because Africa is got it going on and because of these movies the world is watching us. These movies are showing others and non-african blacks a different side of africa, that we are not all "world vision kwashiorko kids with flies in our faces". I'm a Ghanaian and i love Nigerian and Ghanaian movies.

WOWWW...so much BEEF going on here..HAHAHAHA...most of you fools didnt answer the damn question instead bitched about whatever you could. Ghana film industry will never take over Nigeria...Nigeria makes the MOST PER CAPITA (that's a fact) in movies...so it will take Ghana a while to catch up. I am a proud and beautiful Nigerian and its sad and pathetic to see all the hate going on.u ppl don't love urself and lack self-confidence...but for the record WE ARE ALL AFRICAN...SO STOP BITCHING!!!!

This is the problem with africa, from an outsiders perspective, you all really bring down each other that is why as a continent you will always be distressed. Africa is huge, there is room enough for more then one movie industry to succeed, be happy that you all are becoming more innovative as a people and stop hating, dang!

Hmm, You dont have to talk too much!!, We all know that we always love NEW BORN BABY than Older ones, But when they all grow old, Elders still get their Full respect from younger ones. Their is nothing like overtake. Hey see this: Holly - Bolly - Nolly, Nothing within, but i am hearing something after them. Cheers.

Now, Now, Now....All of us are Africians...I am a Jamaican who has lived in Canada since I was 6 years old...and I have lived in many counties, for all your information we are all one. It is time we stop the fighting and be proud of one another no matter what region we come from, cause the other sec is not complaining, but just identifying us as one. Do you see European actors complaining as to what country films or actors come from. Once a year they all even Hollywood pack up and run to Cain or even Toronto film festival with no problem and spend time to appropriate each others work. Even in Hollywood do you see the actors from America criticizing or complaining bout the none Americans..And we, yes we don't care bout none of that when we run to watch the Hollywood films or even give the though of where the Hollywood actors come from when we are lusting and gloating over any of that.even thought most of the best comes out of Canada.. and i am bias right there...I love Nollywood movies and I am proud of all... even though my daughter is married to a Nigerian... I will be visiting Africa in a few months and I would love to visit both countries... and some...This is how we as black people hinder ourselves, as soon as something good happens for us we start to make divisions. Who cares what country they come from just support them. I try to spend at least $60 dollars a week on the films and is praying that they get entered in some of the worlds film festivals and win some awards....I love Jackie and Idi and mercy and Nadia and van and many more and I want them all to perfect their craft....I was even thinking the other day after see the king is mine and Shakera that these ladies are Hollywood material and men you too. I am glad Majid is getting better....oh boy let us not forget patience....that is a character by herself. Stop the fighting and word throwing and contribute...after my African trip I will be launching my part to the Nollywood contribution...PLEASE JUST STOP TRYING TO CREATE DIVISION IN SOMETHING GOOD...THE REST OF THE WORLD IS JUST appreciating their good works...I am now living in new york and I can say with clarity that people here and in Canada and Jamaica love and appreciate their hard work. And guess what when we buy the films we don't care where it comes from we just refer to them as Nollywood or African movies.....GOD BLESS YOU ALL

listen up.. ghana will never meet the higher standards of nigeria. Nigeria is better than ghana in movies, entertainment, music, developement etc... its riddiculour to think that ghana would think of compairing themselves to nigerians, its like compairing an antilope to a lion. Nigeria rules ghana, when you look at historie, you will see that ghanians have worked under nigeria in nigeria for plenty of years,so it sounds stupid to say that ghanians are better than nigeria, and btw did yall know ghana depends on n

Ghana like to start something always. I can't even believe one would compare the two industries, umm ghana pay respect to whom it's due. No one would even know about ghanian movies if not that Nollywood literally adopted you guys because of their cheap actor of less quality, the only person worth watching is Majid, the other its just their looks that is keeping them so, don't even think for a moment that your movies are going anywhere. Come to think of it have you guys ever checked the producers of ghana movies? they are mostly Nigerians, so suck on that.
