True love magazine quote, explain please

old cover of true love from mona
Can someone please explain to Naijagal the meaning of this quote?

‘A man in love is incomplete until he has married. Then he’s finished.’ This is a quote from the current issue of west african true love magazine, according to naijablog. What exactly are the trying to say?

I think there's much brohaha about nothing. That quote I feel could swing both ways and apply to either partner. ITS A generalisation about the pther partner in a marriage being unbearable which i dont think holds much water

ON THE OTHER HAND IT COULD BE AN ADVERTISING PLOY TO STIR UP PEOPLE AND GENERATE A FURORE THUS INCREASING SALES AND AWARENESS ABOUT TRUE LOVE MAGAZINE

Well, it's a play on words. A painting for instance is incomplete until it is finished [completed]. Likewise a man is incomplete until he is married, but instead of being completed [or brought to his final state of perfection] by his marriage he is finished [doomed to death or destruction].

It's a pun on the word 'finished' which has both meanings. Dig?

@calabar girl you know you could be right about that, i hear this month's is flying off the shelf.

@anonymous/TW So basically it is a play on words, what is all the hoopla then lol

The hoopla is that True Love which caters primarily to women is carrying a quote which implies that women are responsible for the downfall of men. Thats a very sexist comment and should not be encouraged

I agree with Lala. As a magazine which caters primarily to woman, such a quote is actually not funny at all. It is derogatory to women and it affirms the general claim that women are nags and their nagging can finish/destroy a man.

Calabar Gal - yes, the quotes could swing both ways, but you know something, in so far as men holds the power in society, women will always be worse off for such a joke. It is like when white people say, 'black people can be racist too'. yes, but does black racism have the same power as white racism? I don't think so. So this quote swing the other way works in the same way.

But I think you might be right, it could very well be a advertising ploy. I say good for them.
