She is beautiful and self- assured. The daughter of the
state governor, this just so happens to be the year her father finally got his
wish. He was now on top of his political game. She in turn suddenly found
herself surrounded by new friends. But all the while she held on to her closest
friends and a secret deep down in her heart. She had a crush, oh but this was
no ordinary crush. This was a crush for a senior prefect, the head boy and here
she was a lowly at least in the secondary school sense fifteen year old SS1
student.
“Hey Sade”, a voice brought her back from her dream land. It
was none other than Jumoke. The only one who knew about her secret crush or so
she thought.
“Mrs Philips!” Jumoke
whispered turning back to Sade. Then
letting out a loud laugh! Lucky for Jumoke, the teacher had not yet arrived or
else she would have had to explain why she was laughing so hard in class.
If only Jumoke knew how she Sade wished that were true.
“Well it is almost time for a break and we know where you
will be.” Jumoke continued, pointing towards a window facing a big field.
“Right there, once the boys head out to play football!”
Sade turned to stare dreamily out the window; yes that is where she will be and why not, she
could stare at her dream guy for 30 minutes during her school’s break.
“Don’t look out the window but I think your guy is passing
by”. Yes there he was Sade felt her heart beating so fast as though it were
about to fly out of her chest. There he was gorgeous, tall and chiseled with
his Head Boy badge place perfectly on his chest. It read Joseph Philips. The
most handsome guy Sade had ever seen.
“You know he is not rich right? He is also an Efiko. Why
him?”
“Jumoke, mind your business,” Sade replied dreaming as she
watched Joseph pass by. Just then Mrs Aderonke walked in.
“This is a physics class okay how many of you are here for
physics, let me just make this clear. All of you are going to fail!” What a way
to instill confidence in her students Sade wondered. Mrs Aderonke turned around to face the chalk
board to start teaching; Practically talking to chalk board. The class period
ended and break time had finally arrived.
Sade stood on the walk way which connected the junior school
to the senior secondary school. She held
on to one of the support pillars that faced the huge field. The boys had
already started running to the field to get started on their thirty minute soccer
match. Sade hoped to catch a glimpse of “the crush” Joseph. Sade’s heart
started to beat as though she were having a heart attack. Suddenly, out of
nowhere she heard a familiar voice whisper behind her ear.
“I didn’t know you loved football,”
