Religion in Africa, and Zimbabwe in particular, has become subject to abuse from individuals and groups of people who have taken advantage of the human being's need for due diligence, the desire to accumulate wealth and the need to live and healthy life. Suddenly, preacher of the Word, diviners of different beliefs and religions have become known to many as prophets.





The word prophet is derived from the Greek word profitis meaning "foreteller", and it defines an individual who is claimed to have been contacted by the supernatural or the divine, and serves as an intermediary with humanity, delivering this newfound knowledge from the supernatural entity to other people. (Wikipedia). The message that the prophet conveys is called a prophecy.

Zimbabwean people have of late, developed an inherent desire to want to know why they are not where they believe they should be in life. In the past, people would visit the diviners or traditional healers and soothsayers in the quest for answers. Gradually, the soothsayers became openly corrupt, abusing their followers, who were mostly women who desired the fruit of the womb. A report in the Outpost Magazine, a Zimbabwe Republic Police magazine reported on how a prophet would sexually abuse who had come in full faith to get assistance. The man would smear an ointment on his unsuspecting victims, which induced a deep sleep, and then he would proceed to sexually abuse these women, thereby infecting them with diseases and impregnating them. Followers of the these soothsayers have become limited and they have now turned to a new kind of PROPHET, the Charismatic Pastors

The shift towards the apostolic and prophetic approach in Christianity has seen a mass exodus from the traditional prophets who operated from their homes and from shrines in the bush and under trees, to hotel conference rooms and large fancy buildings. The same principle that Christians sneered at and called abominable seems to be the order of the day in today's prophetic world.
